Alabama man killed when car runs off road, hits utility pole, gas line, then tree, state troopers say

An Alabama man was killed this week when his car left the road, striking a mailbox, utility pole, gas line and eventually a tree, state troopers reported.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m. Monday, and claimed the life of a Courtland, Alabama, man.

Melvin L. Reedus Jr., 40, was fatally injured when the 2017 Infiniti Q50 that he was driving left the roadway, struck a mailbox, a utility pole, a gas line and then a tree.

Reedus was not using a seat belt at the time of crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash occurred on Alabama 33 near Lawrence County 286, approximately four miles southeast of Courtland, in Lawrence County.
