An Alabama man already charged in the drug overdose death of a teenage girl has been arrested after a school resource officer got a tip about a possible drug sale, prompting an investigation.

“The (school) resource officer turned over the information quickly to our team and we were able to make an arrest before the pill was sold,” Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said. “I have no doubt a life was saved because of the swift actions of this team effort.”

Jackson Powell Lewis, 19, was arrested and charged with the sale and attempt to furnish illegal narcotics to a minor, a Mobile County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said.

Lewis was already out on bond on manslaughter and drug charges related to the death of his girlfriend Adrianna Taylor, 15. She died on August 31, 2022.

A school resource officer assigned to the Mary G. Montgomery High School in Semmes received a tip and alerted investigators to what is believed to have been the likely sale of fentanyl.
