The death of an Alabama man who died Sunday after he was assaulted with a blunt object is being investigated as a homicide.

Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the victim was identified as Gemar Demetriece Hubbard, 54, of Center Point.

Hubbard was attacked at approximately 9:43 p.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of Charter East Circle.

He was transported to UAB Hospital where he died from his injuries Sunday night.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating the matter. Investigators have not provided additional details of what led to the assault or who investigators believe may have been responsible.
