Alabama Skies: Severe potential enters weather forecast

Friday is a day of transition from our dry, cool weather to wet, warm weather. Our rain chances now include a severe weather risk from the Storm Prediction Center and National Weather Service.

A Level 1 risk covers western Alabama, ending in central Alabama roughly along the I-65 corridor. The risk is expected to begin about 4 p.m. Saturday and end around 4 a.m. Sunday. The main threats are damaging wind gusts and a brief tornado or two.

We’ll have a couple more days of rainy weather as the cold front makes it through. We’ll also get cooler again next week.

North Alabama

Mostly sunny with a high of 63. Becoming mostly cloudy in the evening with a chance of rain or a thunderstorm overnight. Low of 53.

Central Alabama

Partly sunny with a high of 63 Mostly cloudy Friday night with a few showers possible. Low of 53.

South Alabama

Partly sunny with a high of 67. Mostly cloudy overnight with a shower possible. Low of 52.

Gulf Coast

Mostly cloudy with a shower possible. High of 68. Partly cloudy with fog possible overnight. A shower is possible. Low of 59.
