Alabama jewelry store owner shoots armed robber, police detain woman suspect

An Alabama jewelry store owner shot a woman Wednesday who was trying to rob the store, police said.
The suspected armed robbery was injured in the shooting and was detained by police.
Her identity was not disclosed.
The incident happened at Jeff Dennis Jewelers in Gardendale, Alabama.
At approximately 4:49 p.m. police responded to Jeff Dennis Jewelers on an attempted armed robbery, police said.
The woman was armed, police said, but it was not clear what kind of weapon she had.
Owner Jeff Dennis posted on social media about the incident.
“We will be closed on Thursday and reopen at normal time on Friday,” he wrote. “God is good and we are safe!”
“I take the safety of my store and my employees seriously,” he said. “Nothing was taken during the robbery attempt. All of our merchandise and customer goods are secure.”
Dennis said the event was traumatic.
“Pray for us tonight. This was traumatic for us all but it could have been much worse.
On our worst day, we are still super blessed!”
