An elderly Alabama man was arrested Sunday afternoon after police say he shot and killed his wife.

Police arrested Gerald Adams, 80, of Northport, Alabama, and charged him with murder after police said he shot and killed his wife, Donna Adams, 79, who reportedly had been suffering from a long illness.

Investigators said they found no signs of any kind of argument or struggle prior to the shooting.

The shooting occurred at approximately noon in the 3200 block of 28th Street in Northport.
