An Alabama man died Sunday after his pickup truck veered off the roadway, struck a ditch and then a tree late Saturday, state troopers said.

The one-car wreck on Interstate 59 approximately 3 miles north of Tuscaloosa claimed the life of Emmanuel Martinez, 22, of Gordo, Alabama, state troopers said.

Troopers said Martinez’s 1996 GMC Sierra left the road, struck a ditch and then a tree.

Martinez, who troopers said was not wearing a seatbelt, was critically injured in the wreck.

He died a short time later at DCH Regional Medical Center.
