The dead body found shot to death inside a burning house in May now has a name.

Jefferson County Coroner’s Office officials said the body belonged to Rodney Maurice Walker Jr. The 25-year-old Cottondale resident had been shot prior to the fire starting, officials said.

Walker’s body was found May 22 by Birmingham firefighters who were called to a house fire on Old Lewisburg Road. Investigators were immediately suspicious of the fire and the autopsy of the dead body found inside revealed he had been shot before the fire.

No one has been arrested in the case, but police say the investigation continues.
