The victims of Monday’s fatal, head-on collision with an 18-wheeler on an Alabama road have been identified, the local coroner’s office reported.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said Wednesday that the victims were Ephriam Edwards Jr., 69, and Sheila Peterson Mahand, 72. Both were Birmingham residents, coroner’s office officials said.

The wreck happened Monday night on Montevallo Road, SW when Edwards’ 2016 Chevrolet Impala struck an 18-wheeler, head-on. Mahand was a passenger in Edward’s car.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
