A fiery crash early Sunday morning left two people dead, Alabama fire crews reported.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews responded to the single-vehicle accident at approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday, at University Boulevard and 9th Street South.

Crews said when they arrived a vehicle was resting against the structure of the underpass at University Boulevard and Interstate 65. The car was on fire when crews arrived.

After the fire was extinguished, crews said they found two bodies in the front seats.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is under way.
