We’ll see the whole gamut of weather conditions across the state today. Northern Alabama will remain sunny and warm today before storms tonight while a severe threat has creeped into the forecast for southern parts of the state.

As far as the severe risk is concerned, there could be two separate times involved. It really depends on if the storms creep over land or stay over the Gulf. A Level 2 threat now includes Mobile and westward to the Mississippi line. In this area, the main threat is damaging winds up to 60 miles per hour.

A Level 1 surrounds the Level 2 and includes areas from Gulf Shores to Foley to Tensaw to Butler. The main risk for this area is also damaging winds.

The first round is expected in the afternoon while a second round is projected for overnight hours into Sunday morning. The second round depends on if the power to generate storms restores after the first round.

North Alabama

Mostly sunny with a high near 82. Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm tonight with a low of 61. Wind gusts up to 25 miles per hour are possible.

Central Alabama

A slight chance of showers later in the afternoon. Becoming cloudy during the day with a high of 83. Tonight, showers and thunderstorms with a low of 61.

South Alabama

A slight chance of showers or a thunderstorm during the day, becoming more widespread in the late afternoon. High of 84. Showers and thunderstorms likely tonight with a low of 62.

Gulf Coast

Showers and thunderstorms with a high of 78. Up to two inches of rain expected. Showers and storms continue tonight with another inch of rain possible. Low of 66.
