Alabama woman killed in Tuesday morning crash with utility pole, tree

An Alabama teenager was killed Tuesday morning when the car in which she was a passenger struck a utility pole, then a tree.
The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m. Tuesday and claimed the life of a Dothan, Alabama, woman.
Carmen Alexus Shiver, 19, was fatally injured when the 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara driven by James Blake Glass, 21, of Dothan left the roadway, struck a power pole, overturned, and then struck a tree.
Shiver, who was a passenger, was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Glass was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital for immediate medical attention.
The crash occurred on Willie Varnum Road, approximately 6 miles northwest of Cottonwood, in Houston County.
