An Alabama man was convicted Wednesday of killing three people, including a grandmother and her 7-year-old great-grandson in a robbery that yielded him $13.
The jury reportedly took less than 30 minutes to convict Jimmy O’Neal Spencer of seven counts of capital murder for the 2018 crime spree in which he murdered Martha Dell Reliford, 65, Marie Kitchens Martin, 74, and her great-grandson, Colton Ryan Lee, 7.
The sentencing phase is expected to begin Friday. Spencer could be sentenced to life in prison without parole or he could be put to death.
Spencer had been recently released from prison shortly before he lost his job, car and residence. He apparently was looking to steal from his victims. He managed to steal $700 from Reliford, but when he killed Martin and her great-grandson, he stole $13.
Jurors heard an audio confession from Spencer during the trial.
