An Alabama substitute teacher has been charged with child sex crimes after a nearly year-long investigation.

Donald Roberts, 74, a substitute teacher in Franklin County, has been charged with two counts of sexual contact between a school employee and a student under the age of 19.
Roberts has been part of a year-long investigation after a Red Bay School resource officer was alerted to an incident involving Roberts and underage students on November 28, 2023.
The Department of Human Resources has also been investigating the reports.
The Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office will handle the prosecution after the Franklin County District Attorney recused himself from the case.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.
