An Alabama man who was shot and killed by police after lunging at officers with a knife has been identified.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency identified the man killed Sunday in an officer-involved shooting with the Muscle Shoals Police Department as Ronald Parrish, 68, of Muscle Shoals.
ALEA said the incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. when officers responded to the 300 block of Tuxedo Avenue West in Muscle Shoals.
When officers arrived, they encountered Parrish with a knife. After repeated verbal commands to drop the knife, they say Parrish lunged toward the officers with the knife, causing police to engage and shoot the suspect.
Parrish was transported to Helen Keller Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences will perform an autopsy.
ALEA will turn the results of its investigation over to the Colbert County District Attorney’s Office.
