An Alabama patrol vehicle crashed into the patio of a Chipotle restaurant in Decatur on Monday evening, leaving four people injured, including two children.
The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. at the Chipotle on Beltline Road SE. According to Decatur Police, the officer driving the vehicle had exited and entered the restaurant when the patrol car began rolling backward, ultimately colliding with the outdoor seating area.
Two adults and two children were taken to Decatur Morgan Hospital for treatment. One of the children was later airlifted to another facility for further medical care.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle may have malfunctioned, with a “Shift Sys Fault” message appearing on the dashboard prior to the accident.
The Falkville Police Department responded to the scene and towed the patrol car. They are now handling further inquiries related to the incident.
