An elderly Alabama husband and wife were found dead late Thursday night in what police believe is likely a murder-suicide.

Police in Auburn, Alabama, said they were called to a residence on Payne Street at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday after being called to check on the residents who lived there.

Inside the house officers found a 92-year-old man and his 88-year-old wife. Both were reported shot once and a handgun was located at the scene police said.

Police did not immediately identify the couple but said they believe the shooting deaths were an isolated incidence.

“Nothing indicates anyone else was in the home at the time the incident occurred,” Assistant Police Chief Michael Harris said.
