A 50-year-old Alabama man was taken into custody by Mobile County deputies on Friday following an investigation into a reported probation violation, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

James Eugene Dees faces serious charges, including five counts of unlawful possession of child pornography, four counts of violating the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, and a probation violation, the MCSO reported.

The arrest took place in the 8600 block of Wilmer Georgetown Road. Dees is currently on probation for possession with intent to distribute child pornography, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

During the investigation, Dees admitted to detectives that he possessed hundreds of photos and videos depicting children on his phone. However, he refused to consent to a search of the device. The phone has been seized and will be searched once a warrant is obtained, the MCSO stated.

Despite the lack of immediate access to Dees’ phone, investigators were able to gather sufficient evidence at the scene to press the current charges.
