An Alabama man drowned Wednesday as he was swimming at a state park, authorities said.

The man, identified as Jason Beck, 47, of Wellington, Alabama, was reportedly swimming Wednesday afternoon at Oak Mountain State Park in Shelby County when he went below the surface of the water and never resurfaced.

Rescue crews were called to the park at approximately 3 p.m. Beck’s body was found just before 5 p.m.
