Alabama motorcyclist killed after colliding with dog, then being thrown into vehicle’s path, state troopers report

An Alabama man was killed Saturday night after he struck a dog on a state highway causing the man to be thrown into the path of an oncoming car, state troopers said.

Gary Wilkerson, 67, of Oneonta, Alabama, was operating his 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at approximately 8:55 p.m. Saturday when the collisions took place.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Senior Trooper Vu Quang said Wilkerson struck a dog and that collision threw him from the motorcycle and into the roadway of oncoming traffic where he was struck and by a 2017 Toyota Camry driven by Matthew W. Dempsey, 52, also of Oneonta.

Wilkerson was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident happened on Blount County 12, approximately 8 miles south of Oneonta, Quang said. Troopers are investigating the accident.
