An Alabama 10-year-old boy was shot while walking in a park with his mother, apparently a victim of being caught in a crossfire of someone shooting at something or someone else, police said.
The boy was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.
The shooting happened at approximately 6:10 p.m. Wednesday in East Lake Park in Birmingham, police said.
Investigators said the child was walking in the park with his mother when he suddenly felt pain in his arm and his mother looked down and realized the child had been shot.
They ran to a nearby football field with other adults helped render aid to the child until emergency medical workers could arrive.
The boy was transported to Children’s Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel.
Police said they do not believe either the boy or his mother were targeted in the shooting, but potentially just caught in the crossfire by a stray bullet.
