An Alabama man was killed Saturday after he ran into a guardrail and got out of his vehicle and was subsequently struck by an 18-wheeler, state troopers said.

Troopers said Martin Rodriguez-Ramirez, 29, of Cullman, ran his car into a guardrail early Saturday morning on Interstate 59, just east of Hueytown.

After the accident, he exited his vehicle and was in the roadway when he was struck and killed by a Freightliner semi truck.

The accident happened at approximately 5:15 a.m.
