A young child was found dead Monday evening in a small, Alabama pond after the child went missing, a sheriff’s office said.

Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they were called to a residence just before 6 p.m. after a child who was approximately 3 or 4 years old went missing from the residence.

After a brief search of the vicinity, first responders found the child dead in a small pond near the residence, Clay County sheriff’s deputies said.
