Mississippi school teacher murdered, police charge her 14-year-old daughter with crime

A Mississippi teen has been arrested for shooting her mother and stepfather Tuesday. She is facing a murder charge and attempted murder charge.
According to WLBT, the girl’s mother, Rankin County School District teacher Ashley Smylie, died from her injuries while the stepfather was injured.
The report quoted a press release that explained officers found the stepfather in a home with a gunshot wound in his shoulder. He is reported to have told deputies that he found his wife dead and his stepdaughter with a pistol.
The male victim said he took the weapon from the teen before she jumped over a fence in their backyard and ran away.
More deputies and a Mississippi Highway Patrol helicopter responder and found the suspect about 5:35 p.m.
WLBT confirmed with the Rankin County School District that Smylie was a teacher at Northwest Rankin High School and the suspect is a student.
