Man struck, killed when he got out of his stalled vehicle, coroner says

A man whose vehicle broke down was struck and killed by a motorist Tuesday, Alabama officials said
Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the accident happened at approximately 9:12 p.m. Tuesday in Bessemer on 18th Street North near the Interstate 59/Interstate 20 exit ramp.
Yates said investigators believe teh man’s vehicle had broken down and the man was struck when he exited the vehicle to try and fix the problem.
The man, whose identity was not immediately released, was transported to UAB Medical West. He was pronounced dead at 10:03 p.m.
The incident is under investigation by the Bessemer police.
