A 70-year-old Alabama man who was stabbed and then set on fire has died, officials say.

The man, identified as Neulan Sims, was critically injured Wednesday when he was stabbed and set on fire.

The incident happened in the Chuchula community. Mobile County Sheriff’s Office investigators said Sims was stabbed by a 13-year-old juvenile who lived with him. The exact relationship between the two was unclear.

Sims was discovered after first responders were called to a report of a house fire on Army Road in Mobile County.

The juvenile fled the scene but was found and detained later.

Investigators said the juvenile was initially charged with attempted murder. After Sims’ death, those charges could be upgraded.
