An investigation was begun Thursday after possible human skeletal remains were found, an Alabama sheriff’s office said.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office investigators along with agents from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency are conducting a death investigation after a caller reported possible human remains this week.

Deputies found what appeared to be human bones. The remains were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for possible identification.

The bones were found in a wooded area in the 11000 block of Alabama 101.
