Alabama police say thieves stole a garbage truck earlier this month and then used that truck to steal an ATM machine, police say.

The Kenworth garbage truck was stolen in the wee hours of the morning on February 12, Birmingham police said.

Detectives say the thieves then used the garbage truck and a chain to uproot an ATM machine from its base.

The ATM was recovered in the 1300 block of Heflin Avenue shortly after 4 a.m. on February 12 as deputies were able to follow a debris trail.

Video footage shows two suspects dressed in all black, with their faces covered, connecting a chain with a tow hook to the ATM.

The chain was connected to a garbage truck, that was later determined to have been stolen out of the city of Birmingham. Birmingham Police Department is investigating the theft of the truck.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies asked for the public’s help on Tuesday to locate the suspects. Police said the thieves were unsuccessful in trying to open the ATM to access the cash.
