An Alabama man out walking his dog on Saturday discovered skeletal remains that have prompted a police investigation.

The man and his dog were walking Saturday afternoon in some woods off Grandview Parkway in Birmingham when the remains were found.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said forensic investigators were working to determine the manner and cause of death along with the identity of the skeletal remains.

Yates said the believe the remains belonged to an adult male, but could not determine more initially.

Police are investigating.
