An Alabama man was arrested over the weekend after his girlfriend’s 19-month-old toddler died at a hospital from multiple injuries.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the UAB Medical West ER on Friday night after a medical personnel became suspicious of the cause of injuries to 19-month-old Gabriel Alonso, who was lifeless when he arrived at the hospital.

Oscar Espinoza Guadarrama, 27, who is reportedly the boyfriend of the child’s mother, was arrested and was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.

Deputies are investigating the toddler’s death as a homicide. Jail records indicate Guadarrama was being held on murder charges, but it was unclear if those charges had been officially charged by Monday morning.
