An Alabama police officer has been arrested and charged with secretly calling in false crime reports to other police agencies, investigators said.
Christopher Eugene Sanspree Jr., 23, of Montgomery, Alabama, was arrested on February 7, and charged with six warrants of false reporting of an incident.
Sanspree has been working as a Montgomery police officer and was reportedly on duty at the time of the fake police reports.
Prattville police investigators allege Sanspree made several phone calls to Autauga County E911 to make false reports, known as “swatting.”
The false reports caused law enforcement officers to respond to allegations of people being shot, breaking into cars and wielding a machete. None of which those were true reports.
