Alabama man struck, killed by train

An Alabama man was killed Sunday morning when his vehicle collided with a train, officials said.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the 52-year-old man from Tuscaloosa has been identified, but his name was being withheld pending notification of his family.

The man was driving a 2005 Lexus LS430 at approximately 1:11 a.m. in the 900 block of 15th Place Southwest in Birmingham when it collided with the train.

He was pronounced dead a short time later at the scene.

Birmingham police are investigating the incident.
