An inmate serving a life sentence was found dead in an Alabama prison.

The inmate, identified as Tommy Tunstall, 54, was found dead Thursday at Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, Alabama.

According to officials, Tunstall was found unresponsive by a cellmate at 9:30 a.m.

He was pronounced dead at the prison at 10 a.m.

Tunstall was serving a life sentence for robbery 1st degree and theft of property 2nd degree from a 1996 conviction out of Monroe County.

An autopsy was ordered to determine the cause and manner of death.

The Alabama Department of Corrections Law Enforcement Services Division is investigating the death.
