Two people were shot and killed early Monday and three others were injured in a mass shooting event that started at an Alabama restaurant and nightclub and continued just outside a hospital emergency room, police said.

The deadly shooting started just after 2 a.m. Monday outside the Aria Restaurant and Lounge on 5th Avenue North, Birmingham police said.

The shooting continued as victims were brought to UAB Hospital’s emergency room when the car some of the victims were riding in was shot again, along with a Birmingham police vehicle.

Officials with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said the two deceased victims were a 24-year-old woman and a 33-year-old woman.

Their identities were not immediately released, pending notification of kin.
