Police said a 3-year-old Alabama boy was injured Thursday evening after his father fled police in a vehicle and struck a tree. The boy was not in a car seat or wearing a seat belt, police said.

The incident happened in Mobile when police said Curtis Shamburger, 33, attempted to flee police who were trying to make a traffic stop on his vehicle.

Shamburger would not stop and eventually lost control of the vehicle and ran into a tree on Springhill Avenue.

Police investigators said they found marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside Shamburger’s vehicle.
