Search under way after Alabama man went into lake to help dog, but never resurfaced

A search was underway Saturday morning for an Alabama boater who went into a lake to retrieve a a dog, but never resurfaced.
The incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. Friday, and resulted in the search for an Albertville man.
Jeffrey S. Abston, 65, exited a pontoon boat to assist in the retrieval of a dog but never resurfaced.
Abston went into the water on Lake Guntersville in the South Sauty area near Robert Davis Road in Jackson County.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division responded and are currently working with local agencies in the search and recovery effort.
The following agencies are currently assisting the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Rescue Squad, Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Langston Fire Department, Scottsboro Search and Rescue, along with the Guntersville Rescue Squad. Troopers with ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
