An Alabama man was killed Tuesday night when his car struck an embankment, state troopers reported.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 11:49 p.m. Tuesday, and claimed the life of a Northport man.

Paul T. Gonnering, 50, was fatally injured when the 2013 Volkswagen Passat that he was driving left the roadway and struck an embankment.

Gonnering was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on Alabama 13 near the 259 mile marker, approximately 5 miles north of Lynn, in Winston County.
