Alabama police shot and killed a man who was armed with a knife and deemed a threat, police said.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials said the Opelika Police were called to a residence Saturday night where the officers encountered a 51-year-old man with a knife.

The man died at a hospital later of the gunshot wounds.

State police are investigating the incident as a normal protocol. The officers have been placed on administrative leave, also as a normal protocol.
