Police officers in an Alabama town are investigating after they discovered a dead body in a closet after they were called to check on the resident living there.
Selma police officers responded to an address on Vine Street Tuesday night in Selma.
Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford said that officers discovered the body in the 1600 block of Vine Street around 8 p.m. Tuesday night.
“Officers did a welfare check on the 1600 block of vine street,” Fulford said. “While speaking to a relative at the front door, detectives detected a foul odor coming from inside the home.
“After further investigation, they discovered a body in the closet and right now, treating it as a death investigation pending autopsy.”
Fulford said is the body is believed to be that of 41-year-old Lakeecy Goodlow. He also said that the body has been sent to forensics for autopsy — to determine the exact cause of death. Fulford did not say why SPD was called to the residence, or who called them.
