Man who pulled gun on Alabama police officer will now spend life in prison

A man convicted of trying to kill an Alabama assistant police chief will spend life in prison without the possibility of parole.

John Robert Taylor, 65,  was sentenced as a habitual offender in Pickens County Circuit Court.

Taylor was convicted of attempted murder, public intoxication, and resisting arrest.

Taylor reportedly aimed his gun and pulled the trigger when Assistant Aliceville Police Chief Tony Thrasher attempted to make an arrest at a store in April 2015.

When the gun did not fire, Thrasher tased Taylor and arrested him.

Taylor’s more than 40 arrests and three felony convictions were cit4ed by the judge as a reason for the life without parole sentence.
