Authorities have launched an investigation after discovering the dead body of an infant in a North Alabama house Thursday afternoon.

Local news sources report that investigators were called to the Florence house on Orleans Street at 12:45 pm. Thursday.

When they arrived at the house, officers found a dead infant at the home and called investigators to the scene.

An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted.

No further information was released by police.
