The National Weather Service asks Alabama residents to keep an eye on a winter storm that could affect travel and knock out power across parts of Alabama.
The weather service has upgraded parts of northwest Alabama to an ice storm warning and say that up to a half-inch of ice will be possible there through today.
BLUF: Significant ice accumulation will lead to hazardous travel conditions today & tonight in west Central AL. We have already received numerous reports of slick spots and ice-covered bridges in our far NW. Please see the highlighted counties in the attached graphics. #alwx pic.twitter.com/TKqfRNP8Ur

A winter storm warning also continues for parts of north and north-central Alabama, and winter weather advisories stretch into south Alabama as well.
A mix of freezing rain, rain, sleet and a little snow will be possible in the northern part of the state today, which will make travel difficult if not impossible.
Ice could also bring down power lines, and bitterly cold temperatures are expected overnight, with lows hitting the teens in many areas.
