A young woman was shot to death Thursday night on an Alabama university campus.

Officers at 9:40 p.m. Thursday responded to a report a of person shot who arrived at Children’s of Alabama hospital. The victim, who had arrived by private vehicle, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Although the woman was brought to Children’s, officers said the victim is an adult — approximately 20 years old.

A preliminary investigation indicates the victim was shot inside a vehicle while in a parking lot of the Hill Student Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The shooting is Birmingham’s 119th homicide of 2020. There have been 178 homicides in Jefferson County, including the 119 in Birmingham.
