Elderly woman killed by brother, who was later found hiding in bush

An elderly man is in custody after Birmingham police said he beat his elderly sister to death Monday morning.
The man was arrested after he was found hiding in a cactus bush. The man appeared disoriented according to police.
The assault happened around 8:30 on Brookfield Lane in Smithfield Estates when a family member called Birmingham’s 911 center to report a domestic disturbance inside the home. When calling 911, the family member told police the woman’s brother, had fled the residence.
When police arrived at the scene, the elderly was found in the kitchen and pronounced dead on the scene.
The suspect in the crime was taken into custody by officials and taken by ambulance to an undisclosed hospital. Police said they aren’t sure what led to the deadly assault and if there had been prior disturbances.
