A 3-year-old child in Atmore, Alabama, died Halloween night after being struck by a motor vehicle driven by the child’s teenage sister.

Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said in a release that at approximately 5:17 p.m. Thursday, police received numerous 911 calls in response to a child being struck by a motor vehicle at 1109 Fillmore Drive, Atmore, which is the location of the Lil Angels Daycare.

“When officers arrived, they found a 3-year-old child laying in the daycare’s driveway with severe injuries,” Brooks said in a release. “When Medics arrived, the child was pronounced deceased.”

Brooks said witnesses at the scene reported a female was seen exiting the daycare and began walking to a vehicle.

Brooks said witnesses said two small children followed behind her, and when the vehicle began moving, one of the children was struck. The other child was not injured.

The driver of the vehicle was later identified as the child’s, 15-year old sister, Brooks said.

The APD is continuing to investigate.
