Reports: Alabama’s iconic strength coach Scott Cochran headed to Georgia

Reports surfaced Monday that the Alabama Crimson Tide’s football program may be losing a key architect of its strength and motivation.

Several sports media outlets are reporting that UA’s strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran is leaving Tuscaloosa and is headed for the University of Georgia.

Bruce Feldman with The Athletic reports that Cochran will go to Georgia to work with his friend Kirby Smart as a position coach.

Last year, the 40-year-old Cochran was reportedly one of the highest-paid strength coaches in the nation, earning approximately $600,000 per year.

Cochran’s booming voice can be heard during the Tide’s stretching sessions before practices. His voice has earned him the moniker, Coach Yeah.

He regularly can be heard yelling “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!”

He’s been with the Tide for 12 years after joining in 2007. He has worked on all six of head coach Nick Saban’s national championship teams including the 2003 one while Saban was at LSU.

Cochran worked for the NBA Hornets team from 2004 to 2006. The New Orleans native earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from LSU in 2001 and later a master’s degree from LSU in sports management.
