MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — A former south Alabama police officer has been arrested on a charge of assaulting a prisoner.

News outlets report that former Citronelle police officer Jason Meade was book into the Mobile County Metro Jail on an assault charge on Wednesday.

Citronelle Mayor Jason Stringer says he fired Meade earlier this month after seeing video of a confrontation between Meade and a man who had been arrested for an old traffic violation.

The man who was arrested, Bryant King, told WALA-TV the officer attacked him after he repeatedly asked for a blanket in jail.

Court records aren’t available to show whether Meade has an attorney to speak on his behalf. He has also worked as an officer at several other departments around Mobile.
