Officials are looking to the public to help identify a body that was found in the water at a North Alabama wildlife refuge Friday.
Decatur police found the body of a female, aged 25-50 years old, at the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge Friday after a fisherman located what they believed to be human remains in the water.
Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn told new sources that the body doesn’t match local missing person reports. Scientists were unable to determine the woman’s identity or cause of death during an autopsy, he said.
Chunn said the authorities are attempting to identify the woman using DNA from law enforcement databases. But if they are unsuccessful, leads from the public will be needed for additional DNA testing or dental record comparisons.
Anyone with information about a missing person who could fit the description is asked to call Detective Sean Mukaddam at 256-341-4617 or email him at smukaddam@decatur-al.gov.
