Early morning severe weather caused a large tree to fall on a townhome killing the elderly resident inside, Alabama authorities said Monday.

The incident happened at approximately 6 a.m. Monday morning at the Mountain Brook Court Townhomes on Montevallo Road, authorities said.

The victim was not immediately identified by police.

Mountain Brook Fire and Rescue as well as Homewood Fire responded to the scene.
