An eighth person has been arrested in a case involving the kidnapping, torture and murder of an Alabama woman who texted her family pleading for help, police said.
Airana Robinson, 23, of Hueytown, has been charged with Felony Murder / Kidnapping in the murder of Mahogany Jackson.
With assistance from the community, Birminghan police detectives were able to identify Robinson as a suspect in the early stages of the investigation. As the investigation progressed, detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. On Friday, March 1, detectives obtained an arrest warrant Robinson, who is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail held under No Bond.
Robinson is the eighth suspect who has been arrested in connection to the Jackson’s murder.
On Monday, February 26, 2024, Mahogany Jackson was discovered shot and killed in the 1700 Block of Laurel Avenue.
Early on Sunday, Jackson had sent a text to her mother telling her she was being held against her will and seeking her to send police.
Police were dispatched, but couldn’t find Jackson at the location she provided by text.
With assistance from the community, detectives located Mahogany Jackson’s body but detectives took seven suspects responsible for Mahogany’s murder into custody within 48 hours of the investigation.
On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, Birmingham Police detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
Investigators would not detail exactly how Jackson had been tortured to spare her family of more pain on the heels of her murder, but suggested it was among the worst they had witnessed.
“The actions displayed by these defendants were barbaric and have no place in society,” said Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr. “The senseless and inhumane treatment perpetuated on young Mahogany Jackson was very disturbing and violent.”
“I truly believe that society has gotten to the point where everybody has a right, but nobody has a responsibility,” Carr said.
“Our office will do our very best to make sure they are punished and held accountable for such heinous and unimaginable actions,” he said. “God bless the family of Mahogany.”
